An Abstruse Excuse to Seduce
It has become a widely accepted notion that men are shallow. All they think about is sex, looks, and don't appreciate women for their character, personality, or emotional intimacy. Whether or not this statement is true is outside the scope of this post [but not of the comments], because I have thought of a reason for this character trait of men, an excuse to be shallow and only care about outside appearances. [also had a talk with kuya about it]
Whoosh!
In case you couldn't tell, that sound signified a passage of time.. - to the past. We are now in caveman times [maybe 10,000 years ago]. Life is simple, and humans are driven by base desires. Since the ultimate goal of every creature in the universe is to reproduce and pass on its genes, these cavemen are no different. So how do they accomplish these goals? Who do they look for in a mate? Well, it differs by gender. Women are looking for providers, men who can get food and give the woman security. Men are looking for good child bearers [I.E. fit, relatively thin women with small-medium sized hips]. Life is good[yet so unfair. :)].
Whoosh!
Yes, you guessed it, we're back in 2005. Our brains haven't evolved significantly, but society has changed dramatically. What this means is that the same base desires now have to be translated into 21st century terms. Women are still looking for providers [not the time for women's lib please], but the muscular, rugged provider of the past can now easily be replaced with an intelligent doctor or lawyer, if he can provide security [food, shelter, a decent life for the kids]. Men are still looking for good child-bearers. The only problem is that unlike a provider, a definition that changes with the times, a good child-bearer is still just that: good at bearing children. While the woman looks for security - and takes it however she finds it; the man is still programmed to go for fit, relatively thin women, with attractive stomach to hip ratios.
So you see, a woman's taste in music or opinion on the war in Iraq is of no basic interest to the man, because all he is thinking is, "Is this woman fit to carry on my legacy?" - meaning "Will she take good care of my children?", "Will she produce attractive, fit children?", etc.
Honestly, I am not trying to belittle either gender, but rather objectively analyze the fact that regardless of how civilized we think we are, our brain stem, limbic system, and cerebral cortex have not changed since the time when men clubbed women over the head as a courtship ritual!
So, girls, the next time you get mad a man for staring at something other than your eyes, at least take solace in the idea that he has chosen you to carry on his good name. He may not know it yet, but he has.
